What This Evaluation Is (and Is Not)

What this evaluation is

A structured, in-home assessment designed to understand your dog’s behavior in real context — inside your home, within your routines, and under the conditions where issues actually show up.

It allows us to determine:

  • what’s actually happening
  • why it’s happening
  • what factors matter most
  • and whether moving forward together makes sense

What This Evaluation is Not

This is not a training session.

It is not a quick fix.

And it is not a sales call.

No obedience drills are performed, and no techniques are applied during this visit.

The focus is clarity — not action.

Who This Evaluation Is For

This evaluation is appropriate for owners who want clarity before making decisions — not guesses, quick fixes, or surface-level advice.

It’s a fit for situations where:

  • behavior feels unclear, escalating, or inconsistent
  • safety, control, or predictability is a concern
  • prior training hasn’t held up in real life
  • understanding why something is happening matters before trying to change it

Who This Evaluation Is Not For

This evaluation is not appropriate for:

  • owners looking for quick tips or immediate fixes
  • situations where the goal is basic obedience or a few commands
  • people comparing trainers primarily on price
  • anyone expecting behavior to be “fixed” in a single visit

This process requires openness, consistency, and follow-through.

If that isn’t what you’re looking for, this evaluation will likely feel unnecessary.

What Happens During the Evaluation

This evaluation takes place in your home and is focused on understanding behavior in real context — not testing, provoking, or running exercises.

During the evaluation, we look at:

  • how your dog behaves within daily routines and normal household conditions
  • patterns, triggers, thresholds, and predictability
  • the structure currently in place and where it breaks down
  • how timing, consistency, and human behavior influence outcomes

The process is observational and conversational.

There is no forced exposure, no “seeing what happens,” and no demonstrations for effect.

The goal is to identify what’s driving the behavior so decisions can be made from clarity — not guesswork.

What You’ll Leave With

You’ll leave the evaluation with a clear understanding of what’s actually going on — not guesses, theories, or generic advice.

Specifically, you’ll gain:

  • a clear explanation of the patterns driving your dog’s behavior
  • insight into whether this is a training issue, a behavior modification issue, a management issue, or a combination
  • an honest assessment of what type of work would be appropriate moving forward — and what would not

In some cases, the evaluation confirms that structured training makes sense.

In others, it clarifies that a different approach — or no immediate intervention at all — is the right decision.

Either way, the goal is clarity before commitment.

Why an Evaluation Comes First

Behavior issues often look similar on the surface, but the reasons behind them are rarely the same.

Starting training without understanding what’s actually driving the behavior can lead to the wrong approach being applied—resulting in short-term improvement, inconsistency, or problems resurfacing under real-world conditions.

The evaluation exists to prevent that.

It allows decisions to be made based on accurate information, not assumptions.

It ensures that any training, behavior modification, or management plan is appropriate for the dog, the household, and the situation—rather than forcing a generic solution onto a complex problem.

This step isn’t about slowing things down.

It’s about protecting outcomes and avoiding wasted time, effort, and cost.
